Examples of different extracurricular activities are listed below:

  • · Varsity and junior varsity sports: Soccer, Volleyball, Handball, Floorball, Basketball, etc.
  • · Extracurricular Activities: Orchestra, VOT (volunteer organization that works at retirement homes), VIA (rock band), Samul-nori (traditional Korean percussion team), Movemental (dance team), FINEA (economics and debate club), Papyrus (literature and poetry club), Debate, School Newspaper, etc.

RESEARCH PROGRAMS

11th grade students can choose to take a research course to learn how to conduct academic research and produce a paper of their findings. The students can work by themselves or in small groups. They deliver a short presentation on their research to faculty members for consultation and evaluation twice throughout the year and submit a research paper. Their reports are graded pass/fail, and quality research papers are selected for the annual HAS Journal. Students may present their research at the year-end HAS Seminar.

ONE SPORT AND ONE ART PROGRAM

All students at HAS are required to participate in both a sport and an art class. After their regular class schedule, students attend music, art, or sports practice under the supervision of outside experts. The Sports and Arts Program runs for 90 minutes a day, four times a week, and students devote a substantial portion of their free time to it as well. At the end of every semester, students showcase their skills in a school-wide performance and visual display. During the concert performance, students demonstrate the musical skills they have learned which range from popular music to orchestral arrangements. Students who engaged in artistic projects have their productions displayed in the school lobby; their creations include photographs, sculptures, drawings, and calligraphy, among others.
